President

The President shall represent the organization at all external functions and shall serve as the chief executive and administrative officer of the organization. The President shall coordinate the organization. The President shall serve as the chief administrative liaison with the Law School Administration. The President shall preside at meetings. The President shall insure that all other organization officers perform their duties of their respective offices and shall be responsible for the welfare and dignity of the organization during his or her term of office. The President supervises and oversees the work of the other officers, ensuring that they function together as an effective team. The President provides the overall vision and sense of direction for the organization. The President serves as a role model for other officers and members. The President shall be responsible for scheduling guest speakers and the preparation of the calendar of events with the approval of the executive board and the assistance of the Events Coordinator Officer.

Vice President

The Vice President shall assist the President in scheduling and presiding over meetings. In the event of the absence, death, resignation, disqualification, or removal from office of the President, the Vice President shall assume the duties of the President for the duration of the school year. The Vice President shall coordinate Summer & Fall recruitment events such as a first year orientation session, mentoring program, serve as a chair on any committees appointed by the administration and as chief liaison between officers of the executive board and the President.

Secretary

The Secretary shall coordinate emails and telephone contact and shall be the chief recorder and correspondent of this organization. He or she shall keep a true and complete record of all matters pertaining to this organization and shall certify those records when necessary. The Secretary shall maintain a record of all organization members with their current contact information and shall dispatch notices of meetings to members. The Secretary shall have email privileges. The Secretary shall be the custodian of the organization constitution, by-laws, minutes, administrative records, and report of this organization.

Treasurer

The Treasurer shall collect dues and organize and solicit contact with local, state and national businesses in an effort to increase the organization’s financial standing and sources of revenue. The Treasurer shall collect money for the organization. He or she shall keep the external account separate from school funds. The Treasurer shall certify that all financial obligations of new members have been paid. The Treasurer shall keep a chronological record of money received and disbursed, report on the amount of money spent and received, and report the current balance at every official organizational meeting. The Treasurer shall also submit a yearly budget and all financial presentations to SBA.

Community Service Chair

The Community Service officer shall coordinate two (2) philanthropy events a semester. The Community Service officer shall be the chief contact for community service activities within the Lubbock area. He or she shall provide information of dates and time of upcoming events within the community for member participation. This officer shall maintain a database of information detailing the availability of events including contact information, location, and nature of service.

Pro Bono Chair

The Pro Bono Chair will organize two (2) Pro Bono activities where students do free legal work for injured or disabled veterans, or other types of veterans in need of free legal aid. He or she will set up events to support those called to active duty. The Pro Bono Chair will work with other Veteran’s Organizations, including reaching out to organizations like the veterans museum, disabled veterans of America, etc. He or she shall provide information of dates and time of upcoming pro bono events. This officer shall maintain a database of information detailing the availability of events including contact information, location, and nature of service.

Public Relations Chair

The Public Relations officer shall produce all advertising materials necessary, including but not limited to posters, flyers, emails, etc., to inform the membership of upcoming events. The Public Relations officer has email privileges only when necessary. The Public Relations officer shall maintain upkeep of the organizational bulletin board. The Public Relations officer shall ensure speakers and visitors are accommodated throughout any official meetings and events in the form of transportation, room and board, and other needs. All expenses incurred will be reimbursed by the organization.

Retention and Recruitment Chair

The Retention and Recruitment officer shall maintain an extensive library of outlines, study aids, and textbooks to assist TLMA members in the law school. The Retention and Recruitment officer shall provide a pre-registration workshop in the spring semester to lend support to first year and second year law students during pre-registration. The Retention and Recruitment officer shall also provide workshops for first year students in the core curriculum classes. The Retention and Recruitment officer will be responsible for coordination with the student recruitment committee of the law school and will work with the vice president to implement a mentorship program for all incoming 1Ls.

Outreach Chair

The Outreach Chair shall work with the Retention and Recruitment Chair in accomplishing the goals of actively recruiting other members and lending support to first year law students. The Outreach Chair shall organize motivational events for first year law students, including all other members, in order to ensure members stay motivated and excited about the TLMA.

Events Coordinator

The Events Coordinator shall plan any social events during the semester. In charge of ceremonies and promotions of military members and maintains control and order in meetings. The Events Coordinator is the weapons specialist and is in charge of any shooting events and acts as the safety and compliance officer during such events. The Events Coordinator is in charge of organizing: one (1) shooting event and one (1) safety shooting event and one (1) physical training session per academic year. Also, in charge of organizing one (1) formal dine- in-ceremony where members attend in Uniform. Events coordinator will help train those going to officer candidate school and those becoming JAG officers and work with students interested in joining the military and provides insight to these individuals. Events Coordinator will assist in ensuring that active duty members maintain there physical standards and shooting requirements. The Events Coordinator will plan events for special days like the Marine Corps Birthday, Veterans Day and Memorial Day, etc.

Liaison Officer for the Texas Tech School of Law's
Center for Military Law and Policy


The Liaison Officer will support the development of the Center. The Liaison Officer will ensure that the Center sustains a high level of support at all times by working closely with the Professors and Staff of the Center. This requires that the Liaison Officer regularly meet with the Professors and Staff of the Center, a minimum of two (2) times a semester. When needed, the Liaison Officer shall organize TLMA members to support projects to benefit the Center. The Liaison Officer will assess and understand requirements of Center and will maximize opportunities that TLMA can assist the Center. The Liaison Officer also will identify potential events where TLMA can jointly participate with the Center and is in charge of organizing educational events with the Center.

Editor in Chief of TLMA

The Editor in Chief, with the advise and consent of the Executive Board, will set up a monthly newsletter with articles relating to international relations or other related military issues. The Editor in Chief will edit articles and produce written material and communications–principally in printed publication but also in other forms of media such as web-based or email. This includes: researching, copywriting, editing, and proof reading across the full breadth of publications. The Editor in Chief will seek qualified articles and authors at the law school, and with these articles, formulate an official TLMA newsletter. The Editor in Chief is in charge of disseminating the newsletter in print format to interested readers, not limited to law students. Furthermore, the Editor in Chief will write op eds and other short pieces intended for external audiences. In addition, the Editor in Chief will work with the Scholarship Chair to incorporate articles from the monthly newsletter into a quarterly newsletter to mail to alumni of Tech who are veterans. The Editor in Chief (with the advice and consent of the Executive Board) will develop feature stories, announcements, newsletter articles, and other communications that inform alumni about TLMA’s strategy, engage them with TLMA’s goals, and motivate them to act in ways that will help advance TLMA.
