A section is the approx. 75 law students you will be grouped with for your first year classes. You can figure out what section you are in by looking at your schedule after the course number, you should see “01,” or “02,” etc. There are 4 sections currently, and I expect there will be more after the Lanier Professional Development Center addition to the law school is completed. Note that the Legal Practice course is further divided into half-sections, so you'll see "011" or "012" after the LP course number. The symbol for section is §, by the way. You might want to learn to write it now since you'll be using that symbol a lot in your legal writing.
Who are my professors?
You will know as soon as Admissions sends you the information. Martha and Donna would like for you to be patient, they are working as hard as they can. Please don’t call them to ask about sections, books, or professors. All of it will be sent soon.
When will I know what my section is, who my professors are, and what books to buy?
It used to be the rule that profs remained within a 1L section as the years went by, but now, changes are common; also, you will not know what section you are in until you get your schedule. So the answer is "wait and see." The law school cannot give you that information early, so be patient. As for the books, once you know your section, check the semester book order on the Tech Law Current Students website. (See picture below.) If that book order hasn't been posted yet and you really want to get a head start, call a Lubbock bookstore like Varsity as they may have the information ahead of time.
What about housing?
Law students generally live in off-campus apartments. To minimize your move-in related stress, we recommend a furnished apartment. Here are some furnished housing choices.
Sterling University Pointe 2323 8th Street Lubbock, Texas 79401 (806) 749-2323 / Phone (806) 749-2324 / Fax
Sterling University Trails 2210 Main Street Lubbock, Texas 79401 (806) 749-2200/ Phone (806) 762-1353/ Fax
Sterling University Fountains (806)747-2340 2202 Mac Davis Lane Lubbock, TX 79401
College Park- The Point

This isn't an exhaustive list, and there are many unfurnished apartments as well. A furnished apartment will save time, but they tend to fill up pretty quickly. Not all law students live in furnished apartments, so don't panic if you don't get one. See also: the HLSA Housing Rankings and Housing Exchange.
Do I need to order utility hookups? Who do I call?
Whether you need to order (or pay for) utilities will depend on the particular apartment or house where you live. Ask your landlord which company services your particular property. For more utility information, see: http://www.lubbockhospitality.net/utilities/
