Mission
To protect individual liberties through education, investigating potential infringement claims, raising money, and increasing public awareness of civil liberty abuses and issues.
Projects and Events
Election 2002 – voter registration and promote political participation of all
ACLU Hotline – started in the summer of 2002, TLCLU manages the Lubbock area civil liberties abuse hotline. All claims of civil liberty infringement are vetted by members of TLCLU to the respective agencies and state ACLU organization for further action.
Chili Cookoff – TLCLU participates annually in the accepted students weekend chili cookoff. Our chili is meaty with many secret ingredients, just like our members.
Law School Volunteering – whenever the administration or other student groups seek volunteers, the TLCLU always lends a hand. We help with accepted students weekend, conferences, etc. We’ve given tours, driven buses and served barbecue to conference attendants. Our participation for the Law School represents our organization’s commitment to hard work.
Social Activities – the rigors of law school require a certain amount of fun. The members of TLCLU are no exception. Happy Hours and dinner meetings are common.
Fundraising – as a student organization, fundraising is very important to maintain our membership and goals. Each semester, a fundraising goal is set and achieved through bake sales, dues, and other projects.
